The development of any relationship is accompanied by mutual understanding and mutual restraint. The four female artists participating in this exhibition drew inspiration from their own experiences and family memories. They sew, embroider, print, and paint, using canvas as a carrier and creating images full of tension. In a way, making art is both a self-repair process and a prerequisite for maintaining constant movement.

Because of the societal expectations and constraints placed on women, needlework used to be an essential part of "housework." However, with the rise of industrialization and globalization in the twentieth century and social changes brought forth by the feminist movement, these actions have transformed from mundane daily chores into expressions of freedom and self-will. They can be collective efforts for social projects, formulating "relationships" and "networks," or build a harbour for an individual to rest before the next embarkment.

In Liang Yanqi's new animation work, "Bergamot" the interaction between the citron and human hand evolved from an initial state of curiosity and probing to constant confrontation and fusion, reflecting the interdependence and desire for independence in the mother-daughter relationship, as well as the exploration of women's self-awareness. Meanwhile, Eleanor Wang, who recently became a mother, translates the rhythm she feels when playing viola and painting into sewing, feeling the ebb and flow of breath in the rise and fall of the needle and thread. Inspired by family memories of her grandmother gardening, British artist Juliet Aaltonen often incorporates natural elements while living in London and Amsterdam. She considers the veil-like works exhibited in this exhibition as containers, embroidering and repairing the pre-used fabric, which is pigmented with her hands, and pressing a collection of her grandmother’s inherited iron tools onto the tarlatan fabric, through a process of gradual rusting. Liu Jiaqi, on the other hand, takes inspiration from old photographs of her parents' wedding and her personal relationship. Through a Hammershøi-style technique, she overlays thin layers of pigments, creating images with subtle colour variations to allude to the nuances in gender relations.

As the anthropologist Tim Ingold said in "Lines: A Brief History", 'It is through the transformation of threads into traces that surfaces are brought into being and conversely, through the transformation of traces into threads that surfaces are dissolved.' The flow, vitality, and boundless possibilities brought about by "lines" contradict the notion of history as a linear process, which emphasizes the chronological order of a chain of events and their irreversibility. Instead, the life path depicted by fingertips is akin to tinted memories: along with the countless scattered thoughts, we grow into a knowledge of the world around these paths through continuous layering, erasing, and repairing.
